SPRINTR-Next

SPRINTR-Next is the exploratory part of the SPRINTR ecosystem. In SPRINTR-Next the resources in terms of data, tissue, and blood samples will be used by researchers with expertise in deep molecular and data-driven methods.
The overarching aim is to find new strategies for poor responders to any treatment given in SPRINTR by exploring resistance mechanisms and identifying new targets for further drug development.

Ongoing and planned studies in SPRINTR-Next
  • Spatial multi-omics

    In an EP PerMed funded project, the Nordic PCPM Forum will perform spatial multi-omics with single-cell resolution to identify resistance mechanisms and optimize biomarker profiles. 

  • Phase-contrast x-ray versus spatial-omics  (draft)

    Synchrotron-based phase-contrast X-ray imaging now enables quantitative three-dimensional visualization of intact biological tissues with extraordinary resolution and scale. Whole biopsies will be analyzed using this technique, digital pathology, and spatial transcriptomics to explore the potential to identify novel insight into the tumor biology 

  • Exposomics (draft)

    We will pilot exposomics, the comprehensive profiling of environmental and lifestyle exposures, in SPRINT‑Retro to assess its feasibility and clinical relevance. If successful, it will be scaled into SPRINTR‑Real for prospective, data‑driven patient stratification and precision risk assessment.

  • Drivers of resistant prostate cancer (draft) 

    A yearly analysis will identify men with early recurrence of treatments, and the tissue and available biobanked blood and urine will be retrieved. In-depth multi-omics and multi-modal analysis will be performed to find explanatory biomarkers to identify these men with poor prognosis and identify targetable mechanisms to test novel treatment regimens  

  • Circulating Tumor Cells (draft) 

    Novel methods for single-cell proteomics and transcriptomics have been proposed, and in collaboration between Lund University and Umeå University, these methods will be continuously evaluated

  •  Intra-tumor microbiota (draft)

    The interplay between cancer cells, the tumor microenvironment, and microbial pathogens has emerged as a key focus in cancer research. Using multi‑omics analyses of patient cohorts, this project aims to identify microbial drivers and biomarkers of aggressive disease, thereby testing the underlying hypothesis and uncovering novel therapeutic targets.

SPRINTR is one of six demonstrator in the SciLifeLab Excellence Cluster application to VR/Vinnova Breakthrough technologies in Health 2026

SciLifeLab is a major force in innovative, high-level technologies in the life sciences in Sweden. Six clinical demonstrators are associated with the cluster, demonstrating the translational potential and clinical relevance of the program. SPRINTR provides the combination of well-characterized study cohorts and multi-omic biomarker discovery, making precision medicine acceleration possible within a single study structure.

NordicPCPM Forum strengthens the Nordic precision medicine ecosystem for prostate cancer

NordiPCPM Forum unites leading Nordic stakeholders in prostate cancer research and care to facilitate collaboration, knowledge exchange, and clinical implementation. By connecting clinical cohorts, biomarker research, patient engagement, and industry partnerships, the forum creates a framework for accelerating precision medicine across the Nordic region. This collaborative approach enables more efficient translation of scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.
